25 Year Celebration Event

Last Thursday we (IDS and RIMS (Āpōpō) officially celebrated the 25th anniversary of our partnership with Deighton Associates Limited with afternoon tea.

Joined by our IDS Board, Executive Team, and special guests, we took a moment to reflect on the journey and shared successes. Quick summary below of the event.

Board member, Gordon Hart, talked about the origins of the partnership, noting that the first agreement was penned on a napkin during a dinner with the Deighton team! He reminded us that dTIMS in New Zealand holds 25 years of institutional knowledge and of our achievements….

- 25 years of predicting capability and optimising ROI for asset owners.

- 25 years of industry support and collaboration to advance the sector.

- 25 years of learning and enhancing the models available to the industry.

- 25 years of growing NZ-specific IP and providing guardianship of this publicly owned taonga for the industry.

From the initial RIMS team, ex-chairman Ian Marshall shared insights into the early days of setting up dTIMS and modelling in New Zealand. He said it wasn’t just about Asset Management it was also about “being open, brave and confident about procurement”, always “looking for ways to innovate” and how they simply “got on with it because it was the right thing to do” for the country.

david darwin spoke about the relationship with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency in the early days and over the 25 years, and IDS CEO Dr. Theuns Henning focused on looking ahead and how he is excited about the future of IDS and the partnerships and innovations to come by working together.

The event closed with a special cutting of an amazing cake made by the very clever Jodie O’Doherty!

Special thanks to Deigo Ros from Deighton Associates Limited who flew in especially from Australia, Dr Ian Greenwood and Ian Marshall (from the original technical consortium and RIMS team), Gary Porteous (WSP in New Zealand & Āpōpō), Murray Pugh and Zelda Botes (Āpōpō), Gillian Blythe from Water New Zealand and Pamela Brown from Wellington City Council for coming along and celebrating with the IDS Board and Team.

As we look back on what we have achieved with and for the sector and communities across New Zealand, we are filled with gratitude. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this remarkable journey. Here's to the next 25 years of innovation, collaboration, and success!
